His Name is Jesus
If you were to search the internet for the question “who is Jesus?” you would find thousands of answers to this prevailing question for the past 2000 years.
Jesus. A name that has been spoken for the past 2000 years. A name that has echoed through countless conversations, spoken in awe and wonder, in gratitude and astonishment.
We could start with a list of who Jesus has said to be — Lord, Savior, Friend, Redeemer, Master, Savior, Leader, Healer, Prophet, Influencer, Teacher… but what do these mean to us today?
There’s an interesting story in the Bible where Jesus asks his disciples to tell him what people thought about him. The disciples answer by telling Jesus that some people say he is a prophet or a preacher. Then, Jesus asks them another question. “But who do you say that I am?”
We can tell you all about Jesus — and, we will! But we also want you to know that the understanding of who Jesus really is will come to you in a very personal and real way. All you have to do is open your heart and have a desire to know the truth.
Jesus Loves You
No, seriously… He really does.
In our busy culture, this phrase can easily be taken as cliché. But you can be absolutely certain that this could not be any more real.
Jesus does love you, with an everlasting love. When realized in its full form, this reality will have the largest impact on your life, hands-down.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17 NLT
God loves me?
Yes, you! That’s a fact, and there is nothing you can do — or not do — to change that. When you begin to grasp the reality of grace — God’s free gift to us, completely unearned and freely given — you begin to see how good God is and how much we need His presence in our lives.
No questions asked, no behavior analyzed to determine your candidacy for salvation.
Does Jesus care about me?
He certainly does!
Often times, many of us disqualify ourselves from God’s love because of our failures, our history or our shortcomings. Sin has separated us from God and we can never make up for our sin by good behavior, or trying to undo the wrong that has been done.
But, how can we accept what we have not earned in the first place? The Bible says that nothing in all of creation can separate us from the Love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (see Romans 8). To accept God’s love, we trust his patient, forgiving and gracious stance towards us. Only He has the power to free us from guilt, shame and condemnation to give us a life of complete freedom and redemption from the past.
Come to Him, and open your heart. He will take care of the rest.
I want to know more about Jesus. What’s next?
The awesome thing about Jesus is that He is available to each and every one of us. The only prerequisite to salvation is repentance and surrender to God — simply an acknowledgement that you are not in control and that you open your heart to the truth of God’s Word.
God is ready and waiting eagerly and expectantly, in love, for you to call on Him. The Bible says in Romans 10:13, For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
We are here to help you on your journey with Jesus, but it starts with you and God, one-on-one.
If you would like to, pray this prayer right now:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for bringing me here to this moment. I confess that I have done wrong things in my life and for that I am sorry. I need your grace. I receive your forgiveness today and I trust that you love me and want the best for my life. I open my heart to you today, Lord. Show me who you are. Give me understanding and a desire for truth. Help me to know you as God and Lord in my life. Teach me what it means to worship you freely. Help me to believe in you and love you every day, and hep me live out a life that is changed by your amazing love.
In Jesus Name. Amen.
