Praying In The Spirit

Sunday, January 20, 2019– Pastor George M. Dupree

The doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a BIBLE Doctrine.

We should receive and enjoy every GIFT God has given us.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father…

Jesus is the One Who BAPTIZES Us In The Holy Spirit

Luke 3:16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you in water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a GIFT from God.

Acts 1:4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift from God for every believer

Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

Acts 2:39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call.

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit will empower you tell others about this new life

Acts 4:33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.

Praying in the Spirit brings refreshing

Isaiah 28:11–12 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people, to whom He said, “This is the rest with which You may cause the weary to rest,” and, “This is the refreshing”.

When you pray in tongues, you pray directly to God from your spirit. This is your own personal prayer language in which you can pray and communicate with God.

1Corinthians 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. Prayer In

The Spirit Releases Worship Sometimes when we worship we go to the limits of our self and we express deeper worship by worshipping from our Spirit. When you pray in tongues, you magnify and praise God from your spirit.

Acts 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God When you pray in tongues, you pray Spirit-directed prayers.

The Holy Spirit directs your prayers according to the perfect will of God.

Romans 8:26–27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

When you pray in tongues, you are edified and strengthened.

1Corinthians 14:4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…

Jude 20 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

Paul knew the value of speaking in tongues, and he was thankful to be prolific (productive, fruitful) in his speaking with tongues

1Corinthians 14:18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all If the great apostle Paul knew the need of speaking with tongues how much more should we.

1Corinthians 14:39 Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

Pray in your prayer language everyday.
