Today’s statement for the week is, “Stay focused on your purpose, and not your problems. Problems are going to come no matter what. It is a part of life. The good news is that we can remain in a positive mindset and keep a great attitude. Attitude is contagious and part of living a life of significance is keeping a good attitude despite challenges moments in your life.
Why? You and only you have the power to choose how you feel. So with that in mind, remember, put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. We are to exemplify a cheerful and positive attitude even when circumstances around us seem to be going in the opposite direction.
While I was teaching in Paraguay the importance of attitude, people were quickly understanding how attitude affects every area of their lives. But most importantly, I was learning how my attitude greatly affected the outcome. Despite many challenges and dealing with unforeseen obstacles, I had benefitted the most of maintaining a positive attitude. I couldn’t control many factors around me but the one thing I could control was my attitude……….
I am reminded of Viktor Frankl’s book “Man’s Search for Meaning.” Frankl was a Jewish psychiatrist who was taken to one of the death camps in Nazi Germany. All of his family and all of his friends were gassed and murdered. He records in his book about that day when he stood in front of the Gestapo stark naked. They’d taken away the prisoners’ clothes and even Frankl’s wedding ring. He stood there with nothing at all when he suddenly realized there was one thing the Nazis could not take away from him: his choice in how he would respond.
The single most important principle I have learned myself was no matter what I felt or how my demeanor is, I can’t control or change anyone or anything. So I choose to be positive regardless of the situation. The benefits of that were immeasurable. How about you? How would you rate your attitude on a scale of 1 – 10?
