What about my Emotional Capacity (pt. 1)

As a life coach and a leadership trainer, the subject of emotional capacity always comes into play. Whether they are high-level executives who want to become better leaders or someone who simply wants to become successful in reaching their goals. In order to progress in life, they have to be aware of their Emotional Capacity in order for them to reach their full potential.

God gave us emotions to add zest to our lives. However, sometimes emotions can get the better of us and get us into trouble. Your Emotional Capacity is the ability to handle adversity, failure, criticism, change, or even pressure in a positive way. Whether you realize this or not, these things create stress in our lives. From my observations, the inability to deal with stress or emotional pressure wears people out. I have seen people including myself, give up, break down, or do unhealthy things (addictions ) to try to escape the pressure. No one is immune. However; when you learn to be emotionally strong , you will be better able to manage your emotions and process them through difficult situations.

There are several practices that when applied to your life, will increase your emotional capacity wherein you become an emotionally strong person. The first practice to become emotionally strong is being proactive in dealing with your emotions. Never remain a victim of your own feelings. Don’t catch yourself saying, “that’s just how I feel. I can’t help that.” Remember, emotions are the precursors of emotions.

There are things you need to do which will influence your own emotions. Maybe you cannot control them completely, but you can change them through your actions. We see that when God told Cain to do what was right despite what he felt when he wanted to kill his brother. If you feel sad, then laugh. If you are afraid, do it anyway and move ahead. If you feel you never will get out of debt, think the solution, not the problem. If you feel incompetent, remember your past successes. If you are feeling insignificant, then remember your goals if you have any.

To give you an example of the aforementioned recommendations, I am reminded of what the Bible says, “put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift up your voice to God……..” This is God’s remedy for us when we become sad, depressed or somber. It is an intentional act that we must carry out. God doesn’t ask us how we feel, he doesn’t take a poll nor does he ask for your opinion. he just says, do it. Make sense? Today, make a declaration and say “I will master my emotions before they master me.” To be continued………,,,

How To Be Led

HOW TO BE Led By The Holy Spirit

Sunday, February 10, 2019 – Pastor George Dupree

Being led by the Holy Spirit – it’s not as complicated as we make it out to be.

Believers ARE led by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:14 those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Look at these three ways of being led by the Holy Spirit

1 – The Word – our roadmap

2 – The conscience – our compass

3 – The Holy Spirit – our guide

When you read, study and meditate on the written word you’ll develop an understanding of the principles and the ways of God. Then your mind will be renewed and your sensitivity to the Lord’s Leading will increase.

The natural man cannot receive the things of the Spirit because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Corinthians 2:14   The Holy Spirit will NEVER lead you in a direction contrary to the written word

Give yourself to INSTRUCTION

Participate in Bible Studies –   God sets teachers on the body – take advantage of that.

Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

When you read and study the bible meditate on what you’ve read and pray as you meditate.

This is where praying in the spirit is so powerful.

As you pray in the Spirit the Lord will impress on your spirit what His will is.

Romans 8:26 the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

Apply to your life what you’ve learned and been impressed with. Now you can begin to walk in the things the Holy Spirit is impressing on you and you will be walking in the will of God.

Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh or sinful nature, set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Spiritual people desire the things of the Spirit

Proverbs 3:6 In ALL your ways ACKNOWLEDGE Him and He will direct your paths.

Renew your mind

To be led by God’s Spirit you can’t follow a culture that doesn’t follow God

Exodus 23:2 Don’t follow the crowd in doing wrong…

Just because everyone is doing it doesn’t mean it’s right

Just because it’s LEGAL doesn’t mean it’s MORAL     Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
